I am also a parent of a second grader, and that sounds like a ton of homework for every night. It sounds like he's doing everything at home. First make sure (by discussing it with both your son and the teacher) that your son is doing everything he should during school; just to be sure that he's not blowing everything off so he can play during school time, and then has to take it all home. Then, start by asking to observe the class for an hour or two, if it's possible. If the teacher seems to be giving adequate work time during class, in addition to instruction time, and is ALSO giving the students all that homework, perhaps you can discuss with her how long the work it taking at home, and suggest kindly that she cut back on the homework a bit. If that doesn't lessen the load a bit, then it might be time to talk to the principal. Keep it friendly with the teacher; your son will be in that class the rest of the year! My son's homework for the week arrives home on Monday, and is due back on Friday. It almost always consists of a reading journal (read for 15 minutes 4 nights a week, and write short comments about what he read), two math worksheets, a new set of 7 spelling words, and one other worksheet that varies in content. What he's doing takes about half an hour each evening (including the reading), Monday through Thursday, and seems very reasonable. It's especially nice because if we have some other activity to attend, or if he wants a night off, he can just catch up the next evening, as long as he gets it all done before Friday.

yes look here http://www.nationalatlas.gov/printable/images/preview/reference/pagena6.gif

Spain

hudson bay is connected via the strait

the persian gulf seperates iran from saudi

the map scale depends on what you are showing. 1 to 1 will show a 6 mile journey in 6 inches enough to fit on a page, but a 2000 mile joiurney say LA to NY will need a 2000 inch piece of paper to show it all. thats when we use 1 to 500

the equator lies between cancer and capricorn. each is 22.5 degrees either side of equator.

very close between south dakota and michigan, but michigan is in 2 parts, the northern part being the furthest north. capital lansing

Size of map

depends on what you need

if extreme detail 1 inch = 1/2 mile
a) great pizza place B-1
b) hair salon B-2
c) park with fountain C-3
d) SHOPPING MALL D-4 <<<<<<<<<<<<<< e)school J-7 >>>>>>>>>>.red X

but to display 500 miles - this map would need 1000 inches
(and that WOULD be hard to fold)

so when we want to see a greater area, we increase the legend, e.g. (for example) 1 inch = 50 miles

at 1 inch per 500 miles, we could easily map out the United States

except my crayons could not color it

hope this helps
