1486 miles is about 3 1/2 tanks of gas on a midsized sedan that's reasonably good on gas, and that'll mostly be on interstates. Might be able to get away with refueling 3 times, but budget for refueling about 4 times each way...Since you have a 1987 model, let me recommend getting your fuel injector cleaned, if you haven't recently. It will save on gas consumption.

A 1987 Honda accords' gas tank holds 15.9 gallons of gas. The accord gets approximately 27 miles per gallon highway. The accord will get about 429.3 miles per full tank of gas. So you will need to have 3.5 tanks of gas to make it. With gas prices averaging about $3.00 per gallon, and you having to purchase 55.65 gallons of gas, you would need to save about $166.95 for fuel each way. Total comes to $334 for the whole trip. If I were you I would save about $400 just as a precaution.
