Niki Lauda quit Ferrari 2 races early in 1977, his replacement was a certain Gilles Villeneuve (who made his first 2 Ferrari appearances as a result).
Since Lauda in 1977 every champion has finished the season, but only five: Jones (1980), Mansell (1992), Schumacher (1995, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004), Villeneuve (1997) and Alonso (2005) have won any of the remaining races. In 9 years the driver who won the title early didn't win again that season: Andretti (1978), Scheckter (1979), Prost (1985, 89, 93), Piquet (1987), Senna (1988, 90, 91).
The 1981, 82, 83, 84, 86, 94, 96, 98, 99, 2003, 2006, 2007 seasons went to the last race of the season.
There isn't a specific rule that states a driver must compete, but the sponsors wouldn't be too happy to see a nobody in their car instead of the new world champion... article 19.1 of the FIA sporting regs states that a team may use up to four drivers in races during the course of the season, but it doesn't restrict the teams as to which driver they enter for which race.

it is complicated to go with good now as all we've been given is communicate communicate communicate. Even Honda claims that they are able to have a solid motor vehicle yet while issues went nicely i think of it incredibly is going to be between Kimi Raikkonen and Hamilton except Massa pulls it off this 3 hundred and sixty 5 days then he would be a solid contender for next 3 hundred and sixty 5 days alongside them Alonso and Kubica would be interior the quest until around 14-15 however the form of the BMW seems to be slow and it gets worse with time so Alonso looks to have the greater suitable danger. Vettel often is the comparable yet i don't think of he would be able to win next 3 hundred and sixty 5 days as purple bull does not look nicely stepped forward. As for Heikki 5th place is the suited he can get with such unfavorable skills. For the minors: It relies upon on how nicely it fits the driving force, I advise if all drivers drove a Renault, Alonso will win hands down. A McLaren will favour Lewis and Raikkonen. standard Alonso, Lewis, Raikkonen and Kubica are the contenders and that i'm vote casting for Alonso. For the different minor: Drivers hate Lewis not with the aid of fact he's risky yet with the aid of fact he thinks he's already the suited on objective. no you possibly can deny that Lewis skills is stunning yet his approach desires lots to be needed. in basic terms hear to him after Spa asserting that Kimi does not have the balls to brake overdue. If Hamilton recollects his blunders he might in no way say that. Hamilton is a championship contender, virtually a worldwide champ and that i think of it incredibly is amazingly incorrect to handle him like he's a rookie. With super skill comes super accountability. Hamilton have been given exceeded a brilliant motor vehicle too early in his profession and it incredibly is his accountability tochronic it like a worldwide champion in comparison to a rookie with some stupid blunders. If he insists on being a rookie why the hell is he driving a Mclaren?!!

I believe the FIA (Bernie) will want the winning driver to finish the season properly. I do not believe it is MANDATORY for the driver to finish the remaining races when he has already won the championship. Most drivers will do the right thing and complete the season.

They don't have to compete if they choose not to, but I'm sure the team would encourage them to.
