The first is that I thank the person or the happening who/which showed me the truth, I was not able to see in myself, by myself. Or that which I was not willing to see...

So I don't drown out my foolishness with chasing after something else to quell the pain. Rather, I accept what was hard to swallow, I swallow it - I take the medicine, then I digest it, and then it comes out turned into something else.

In short: "I transform it", and gives thanks for the healing 'yet bitter' medicine, which allowed me to get cured (of a small bit of foolishness).

Depends on what type of truth you are referring to. But since I am more of a seeker of truth, i will interpret your question from that perspective. I would chase truth with a knife (figuratively speaking, of course)! so I can cut it down in portions, in the result that I can swallow the whole thing eventually, even if only through fragments.

If we are talking about something revealed by someone I know which is shocking. Well I would chase that with opened eyes, ears, and no judgment - but rather understanding and compassion.

- Shalom.

As Mary Poppins, who is of course practically perfect in every way says... Just a spoon full of sugar makes the medicine go down...

Don't begin the conversation with sugar coating... it always sounds forced and the hearer can always feel the "but" coming up so they don't really take the 'sugar' in a meaningful way... Just come out and say the difficult thing first. Then follow it up with the good - even if the good is only your silend understanding shoulders, arms, presence and promise to be there for the person in whatever may come. It alsi sets a precedent for every nice thing you say leaving people waiting for the other shoe to drop etc..

True encouragement is when you are able to speak courage to another persons fears or sorrows - not just a lot of "atta Boys" and "buck up buddy"s.

Good luck.

When I'm aware that this is a truth that fits into my already collected and well established other truths and so I can accept and welcome it, then it might be bitter to swallow, but I don't mind and will not have resistance, as I know that this bitter medicine will cure me of some of my ignorance and silliness.

PS: Although I know that as a collector of 'truths' I am still bound to this and not really free...

With self restraint, because the truth is not subjective. If your objectivity about the truth is wrong, you must swallow it by drawing lessons for the future.

Don't bother too much for the other one. If you cannot swallow their truth, just simply recognise it. Much more time you lie, harder you'll kill them.
Just be truthful all the way.
Make a compromise with a lie and shall come other, too.

But do communicate !!!
