Marco Polo born 9-15-1324 died 1-9-1354. He was a very influential Venetian trader and explorer. He along with his father and uncle was one of the first Westerners to travel the Silk Road in China. This was only made possible by a visit to the Kahn, who was then Kublai Khan of the Mongol Empire. He was something of an engineer in his time. Though knowledge of engineering was very limited, he was said to be at the top of of profession. He was also an inventor, devising many items of interest to the sea going trade. He was very much the diplomat, and never had problems meeting with Royalty. Although a very rich man at times in his life, he died almost penniless.

Marco Polo is actually a very significant person in regards to history. He was a Venetian trader and explorer who gained fame for his worldwide travels which included being the first westerner to travel along the Silkroad to China. In doing so he established a trading route between Europe and China that was on land.
