HELP!!World Studies hw. how did slavery stregthen rome??????

I know the building of temples/buildings and stuff is one. But what are two other things.

Many historians consider the creation of a slave state eventually meant the downfall of the classical rome.

However Rome and Greece were built on the ideal of the city state of citizen soilders, who fought for freedom and their city state. Such free citizens required a workforce to free to them to be free...as it were. Just as western economies use cheap labour in other countries, in ancient times, labour was brought in the form of "slaves" to work in the cities.

Now slaves means there were owned by someone, but given your father had the power of life and death over you, then you were not that much more than a slave yourself, even if you were a free man. Slaves often owned property and their own slaves.

The slaves that were killed the arena were really war captives rather than members of the slave class.

As slavery got out of hand, the state ended up with few and few free people and more slaves. Meaning less people to make up laws, event new mathematics or basicaly pick up a sword to fight against invading armies. Hence the collapse of rome.
