"Are" and "Were" are both forms of the verb "to Be." "Are" is the present tense for you, s/he, we, and they (but not me). "Were" is the PAST tense, with the same subject agreement.

Examples:

You [are] writing a question in Yahoo! Answers right now.

They [were] writing answers on the Yahoo! Answers webpage yesterday.

are is present tense, were is past tense. Unless you are talking we're as in we are. Oh my gosh that's a whole hole nother story. This English stuff is two to too hard!!!!

"are" is present form like if you are going with some one and some one asked you can say " we are going" or "we are at blah blah place"

"were" is past form like if you have been visited or work is completed then you can say " we were going" or "we were at blah blah place"

"are" and "were" both will will for plural not for singular

are is when you are going to do something.......we are going to the park

were is something you were going to do.or have done......we were going to the park / we were at the park
