I'm due Dec 31, my husband is deploying Dec 27, so my doc is inducing me on the 23rd. First baby. REALLY want him to see her before her goes, was wondering how often inductions don't work? Anyone know?

I think this all depends on your baby and you. Your baby has to be in the right position and not under too much stress. I was induced at the hospital for 30hrs and had to have a c-section in the end because my babies head was turned to the side so there was not enough pressure for my cervix to dialate. I was at 1cm the whole 30 hrs. I am just speaking from personal expirience. Most women that are induced have the baby. The rest of my girlfriends that were induced gave birth to beautiful healthy babies. I think I was the unlucky one who had too big of a baby that was not positioned right. I hope this helps.

I have been induced 3 times and none of them failed. Once they have you there, if the induction doesn't seem to be working, they will usually do a c section but it usually works unless there is a major problem. Being only 8 days from your due date, it should be fine. You may even go into labor on your own before then.

I have never heard of a failed induced labor. It just really depends on your baby's position. I was induced but my water didn't break fully, so contractions were hitting as though I was ready to start pushing, but I was only dialated to a 2. After that, it was all clear.

I had my waters broken - but it didn't bring the contractions on quicker and it didn't help me dialate.

I then had the drip put in - but again it didn't bring the contractions on quicker and I didn't dialate at all. They gave me an extra 6 hours with it and it was okay after that but I was surprised it took that long with induction/help.

I think you will be fine though - it won't take days with induction, maybe hours but not days.

Good luck x
