You said Core Duo, not Core 2 Duo. I think everyone else missed that. The Athlon 64 X2 is better than a Core Duo, but equal to a Core 2 Duo.

I just upgraded from a intel pent. 4 to a amd athlon x2 and my nephew has a core duo. The fact of the matter is both processers are at the top of their game. I chose the AMD because the price was cheaper. ive had this computer 6 months and its awsome!

Same thing. Its like comparing BMW and Mercedes Benz. However if the intel is in a laptop, it will not heat up too much whilst the athlon will a little bit.

P.S. im running a AMD Athlon X2 5200+ and loving it

AMD is a great processor, they are as good as some Intel processor under certain tasks (Intel's core 2 duo are better but too expensive), if you are looking for a daily work processor (surf the web, burn DVDs, play movies and music, work sheets) without needing it for heavy demanding tasks, an AMD processor will do the work, at lot people will say that they are useless but visit a reliable source such as tom's hardware, pcmagazine or any other reviews magazine and they will tell how useful they are.

I have a core 2 duo and I like it. I haven't tried the athlon x2 but from hearing reviews, the core2 is supposed to use less power and have better performance (per tick, that is).

helloo! both are like pastries i can give you one suggestion i.e athlon x2 and intel core duo both are best in performance vice but athlon x2 gives good support for multimedia pc's and games, if you are using multimedia go for athlon, if you are a programmer anything other than games then go for intel.
All the best.
