When I try to End Task in Task Manager, I get the standard "You chose to end the nonresponsive program, Internet Explorer.
The Program is not responding.
Please tell Microsoft... etc..." message, but the web-page remains open.
Does anybody know an alternate (and safe) way to end the program?
Thanks.

Instead of ending the application, look under processes and end the process.
However, the process will show as IEXPLORER and it can be hard to differentiate from other browsers you may have opened. Usually, the one that hangs has the highest CPU load.

Basically, close down all other programs and applications in the normal way. Then switch off the PC. It is quite safe to do this, it happened to me last night.

Go to your processes, find "iexplorer", end process, when you do this you will basically shutdown your Internet Explorer and may have to reboot to get it back open again.
