It is my belief that al these sculptures should remain on the Acropolis. Not on the monuments, but on the site, in the museum - not the new museum.
When we are thinking of those sculptures, we must be thinking 2500 years ahead, because this is how much they have survived so far. What do you think will exist of the new Acropolis musem made of concrete in 2500 years? I can guarantee : nothing. Where will the sculptures be then? The answer is we don't know, because we don't know the circumstances then. If they were on the Acropolis, at least it would have been easier not to get lost or dispersed. I always prefer sculptures to remain on their site.

Yes, she was removed safely and sound with so much media coverage.
My fellow answerers are more knowledgeable on the subject, but I will disagree on their statements, because the pollution is a problem of the last 30 or so years and the results that accumulated on the monuments were very heavy during that time. Think what would have been the results in a 100 years from now. To my opinion, if we managed to prolong their life for that long is a step worth taken. As for the next 2500 years can anyone predict that the world would be anything worth living if WE go on polluting? Thank God I'll be gone before that .

I feel somehow weird....
I understand these sculptures should be protected from pollution etc.etc. and that in the museum they will be so, but how wonderful would it be if such monuments remained untouched with their genuine items and not replicas on. Doesn't it lose some of the magic when you know that what you see on location, is not the "real" thing?? Knowing that the real things has been removed and is in the near by museum? Maybe I am romantic....

Maybe it is better for the future generations. To keep these treasures so protected.

Hmmmm I'm with Alice here.I mean if they already survived 2500 years being on the Acropolis than that is were they should be.And if there is actual danger of them being damaged dus to the pollution WE make than we should just take measurements to reduce the air pollution,it would actually do ourselves some good too....Why does man always have to destroy something beautiful because of his ego?I think we may be the most selfish species that ever walked the surface of this planet...sigh
