I am from Billerica, MA. Pronounced Bilricka and now live in Groveland, MA soon to be relocating for the last time to Tyngsborough, MA.
Most people of MA do not talk that way but they do exist. My father (raised on a farm in Tyngsborough) speaks with all of his r's and the is the not thu. My mother is from Allston, and says good monin instead of good morning and lost her r's by the time she was 4.
It just makes us even more lucky to be MA New Englanders. We are a special breed.

There are four distinct, separate Boston accents: North (Italian), South (Irish), Bramin (upper class, old money), and African American. Plus, there are a few less distinct accent groups. I don't even know how how many accents there are in the whole state. But given the ethnic diversity, amount of time people have been living in the state, and size of the population, I'd say a linguist could count a good two dozen. So, I guess the answer's no. No I don't think all citizens of MA pahk the cah in Hahvahd yahd.

Not all, but most New Englanders do to some extent.
You know how you always see crows on the side of the road picking at roadkill but never any dead crows? Because there's always one up in the trees keeping lookout and when it sees a car coming it calls out "Cah, cah!"

I think it's a race and class thing. I associate the accent with blue collar caucasians who have lived in the Boston area for multiple generations.

People with accents do not realize their accents since it sounds normal to them. Just like people from lawng iiiiisland don't realize that they have probably the most obnoxious accent in the universe. ;)

No, I thought that was more of a Boston thing. But I doubt all Bostonians talk that way, either.
