Subtract c from both sides:

-1 < 2c + 5

Subtract 5 from both sides:

-6 < 2c

Divide both sides by two:

-3 < c

(note: AJB lost the 2, so his answer is incorrect.)

Just perform the operation as if < is =

c - 1 < 3c + 5

Transpose the unknown in the left side and the constant in the right side

c - 3c - 1 + 1 < 3c - 3c + 5 + 1

-2c < 6

c < -2/6

c < - 1/3

"C" minus 1 is LESS than "3C" plus 5 Solve the value of C
1. Get both values of "C" the same:
3(C - 1) = 3c - 3 Compare that to the other value of "3C"
Reason tells you that an amount SUBTRACTED from 3C is less that a larger value ADDED to 3C, and that 1/3 of 3C -3 would be even less .

nicely coping with fractions is hard. it could be greater handy first of all to multiply the total difficulty by way of four yet enable's first team numbers on one ingredient and letters on the different. 3c + 5/4 -5c = -5 rearranges to 3c - 5c = -5 + 5/4 gathering like "c" words -2c = -5 + 5/4 multiplying the two factors by way of four -8c = -20 + 5 -8c = -15 c = 15/8 or a million 7/8 :)

c-1<3c+5 Subtract c on both side. Subtract 5 on both sides.

And end up with… -6<2c. Divide by 2 on both sides.

Then you get… -3

c - 1 < 3c + 5
-1 - 5 < 3c - c
-6 < 2c
c > -3

ok, here are the steps:

1. subtract c from both sides, so
-1<2c+5

2. Subtract 5 from both sides
-6
Voila! Just know that whatever you do to one side, you have to do to the other. If you have < or > instead of =, whenever you multiply or divide by a negative number, flip the sign.

subtract c-5 from both sides of the inequality which won't change it sign, and then you are almost home free.
