Ok so, my dog chewed a wire in half so I tried to connect it again and when I plugged it into the wall in my room, everything in my room went out and now nothing in the room will turn on and none of the outlets work. Does anyone know if this is a permanent problem or can it be easily fixed? Also, my tv was plugged into the wall so is that completely gone now? or is it just not working in the outlets? Please help!!

Unplug whatever you plugged in so you don't kill yourself. You have flipped a circuit breaker. Find the box and one of them will be not in the same position as the others. Flip it to the same position as the others. If you don't know how, ask someone to show you how to do it so you understand. Electricity is dangerous. If you don't know what you are doing, you can kill yourself. If you don't have circuit breakers, you have fuses and have blown one. Replace it. And don't plug in whatever blew everything until a professional shows you how to fix it. Or you could have a GFI and it shuts off if it senses a difference in electrical current. One of the outlets connected to it will have the main outlet andit willhave a reset button. If that doesn't do it, call a professional.

first, unplug suspected faulty electrical equipment. then power off all switches of connected electrical equipment.

second, reset your circuit breaker and/or ELCB in the breaker cabinet

the ELCB breaker (earth leakage circuit breaker) is usually mounted in the same box, but shaped differently from the other breakers (which are just switches) as it is usually a turn-handle type instead of the flip up-down type. to reset the ELCB, just turn the handle until you hear the breaker snap into position. (not break the handle by turning it in the wrong direction)

it could be either just the ELCB tripped (usually not blown), or the circuit breaker switch tripped (or blown) as well. if you dont have ELCB then just check the circuit breakers for the one that is tripped (switch is pointing in opposite direction from the rest).

as for your connected electrical equipment, you wont be able to tell if they have been affected or not until you get your power up. some may be damaged by the power spike of the short circuit.

OK, unplug whatever it was you plugged in then go to your breaker panel and find the tripped breaker. Turn it all the way off then back on. You should now have power in your room and the TV should be ok. Good luck.

normally in case of short ting, breaker will get off and power in that circuit branch will turn off .Now how many out let or switch in that branch wire exist will out of power.
To insure turn of main power , take the damage part out .Cut 6" from each side of chowed wire and replace that part by new wire (same size wire gage). To connect wires use wire nut and be for covering wall one time turn on power and check all breakers are on .Then check out lets to see power is in or not ,if every thing was OK turn off power again and cover wall and out lets .then you're good to go.

Unplug the cord and throw it away. Then reset the circuit breaker or replace the blown fuse on that circuit. There is no permanent damage.

find the breaker box. One of the switches (breakers) should be flipped opposite of the others. Flip it back facing the direction of the others. Hopefully it should be labelled too.
