Could be dust on laser lens : Try a "CD/DVD laser lens cleaner" disc from your local electrical/pc store
The "clicking" tends to indicate a problem reading the drive, so that's the most likely reason.
If this fails to help, contact DELL support for help re a possible serious hardware failure (new drive needed)

At mine it first didn't but a couple days later it did. When I first bought it it didn't want to play it and the only thing that came out was the picture but all scrambled up. But then I took it back to the store I got it from and the fixed it up.

hmmm....Let me guess. Dell Inspiron.. wait..Does you ever play DVD on that Dell? If not...Try downloading some of the Divx Player. Because i have a laptop that does not play DVD but I use that Divx i put DVD on it... it play. Well. hope that helps.

Try another DVD or reload software..try Dell support and enter your service tag and it will tell you how your system is configured.

either installing vlc media player or installing Power dvd or installing windows media player, you can play any type of media file ,Dvd,cd,svcd,vcd,wmv,3gp.
this is my advice for you and not ignore this.please do this.

Mine did the same thing, and the laser bulb was out. Cost to repair was $35.00.

Sounds like your DVD playback program may be damaged .. it's usually something like WinDVD or something similar .. you probably need to reinstall it..

open the DVD up and clean it with a soft brush, that's one way...
or get a new one in future shop and let them install it for you... it's cheap... about 50 in dollers
