Intel what? Celeron? Core Duo?
i don't know the processor but i would suggest intel over athlon. athlon is made by AMD. i have a AMD Turion 64 x 2 TL - 58 laptop, and it is very fast compared some intel models. but over all, Intel is Coke, AMD is Pepsi. Athlon is comparable to like Intel Celeron, which are slower. Turion is comparable to the Core Duo technology. if price is a factor, then go ahead and get the AMD Athlon over the Intel Celeron.
you have to look at the MHz and bus speeds to really know how fast they are. just looking at the make and model isn't going to help.
this is my first AMD laptop, and I love it. i have always purchased Intel b/c it's the best...but their competition suits me just fine, for half the price. If you can, pick a AMD Turion computer versus Athlon. They are both more affordable than their Intel competitors.

Intel is the leading manufacturer of microprocessors (~80% market share). Until mid 2006, their flagship processor was the Pentium (and its variants). It has since been replaced by Core 2 Duo which has owned the performance and performance per watt crown since its introduction.
The Athlon processor is produced by AMD, the primary competitor of Intel (~14% market share). It is being replaced by the Phenom processor (I'm not sure, but AMD may choose to keep using the Athlon name).

AMDs run a little hotter, but give better performance per Mhz. And they're cheaper than Intels. Intels last longer. Personally, I'm an AMD Athlon 64 X2 user.

Athlon in the name of "AMD"s range of processors
INTEL (Single L) is the name of the company that produces the PENTIUM range of processors.
Each has own advantages and disadvantages.
Generally for "normal use" an AMD processor tends to offer better powert o price ratio, but you need to choose the processor you will build in a system before you buy a motherboard, as these days they are not interswappable

Athlon (AMD) focuses on making faster processors and overclocking (setting processor at higher speeds) while Intel processors are made for higher speeds but focus on stability for use. Both are great processors.
