My girlfriend and I have been together for three years and living together for one of those years. When I FIRST met her I had a two young (5 months) pit bulls Jack and Karen. I told her that to love me she had to love my dogs. She was great with them, they're great dogs and very social and soon they became OUR dogs. So, last week she brings home this CrAzY rat terrier (WITHOUT CONSULTING ME) that has been terrorizing Jack and Karen since the day she brought him home. So after ignoring him for a week and letting him terrorize them Jack barked and growled at her little monstrosity and now she thinks I should put MY dogs out or crate them all day so her dog can run free. Her dog barks constantly, IS NOT house broken, and snaps at anyone who comes to the door. This has been an on going arguement. I feel she is inconsiderate for not discussing it with me before she got another dog? What do you think?

@ antdakll: I knew I wouldnt be able to be in a relationship with someone who didnt like dogs. I LOVE dogs and I had Jack and Karen BEFORE I ever met her. She moved in with me and my dogs, I feel its rude for her to ask me to buy crates for my 60lb dogs that havent been crated since they were under a year old.

Dogs definitely need to be discussed. I would think she should have taken you along to pick one out, or at least said something about wanting the dog.

Possible Solution: Don't punish your dogs because of the new one. Take the new dog to training ($100 at Petsmart) They teach them behavior skills so they will not be so reactive. They teach obedience, too which will help with the snapping when greeting humans.

Good luck!

I agree..granted you two share a house the other dogs were there first..if she wants a dog crated she should crate hers..she should have also talked with you about bringing another dog into the house..the bottom line is it's your house, not trying to sound rude but it is..i wouldn't put jack and karen (good names..i love will and grace) in a crate..they wouldn't know what to do and it could be damaging to them to do so

You have to share space and pets to really live together. Relationships are give and take. Now it is your turn to give.

See if you can make an agreement that one set of dogs will be free in the day time and the other in the evening until they get used to each other.

Don't let a dog ruin a good relationship.

Yes, she was inconsiderate for not telling you about this dog. Tell her that she was very inconsiderate for not asking you if this dog was allright to bring home and that you would like to discuss getting rid of the dog because its mean to Jack and Karen?

Im a loser. I should have never brought Nick home. Jack and Karen are the best dogs in the world and Im so glad you allowed me to be apart of their lives but more importantly apart of yours. Please forgive me for being so selfish.

I think your problem first started when you told her that she HAD to love your dogs, in order to LOVE you!! You can not put conditions on love otherwise it is doomed to fail. Did you consult with her before you brought YOUR dogs into the relationship?? I think you to have deeper issues then just dogs.

I do think she should have at least told you she was going to do it.
But don't let dogs ruin your relationship. She compromised when she agreed to love your dogs. Now you have to do the same.

aw. =(
that's pretty messed up
you should have a heart-to-heart with her and tell her you really think that she should be more considerate of your dogs..
don't get pissed at her or anything or you will have troubles in your relationship
but you still need to he honest
as for an actual solution, i don't really know - you should ask her for (fair) ideas...
good luck!

It's really pretty outrageous, isn't it? Maybe this is her way of letting you know she wants to end your living arrangements.
