I was due to have one in September. When I spoke to my doctor about having one done he suggested that I wait until I was in my 2nd trimester before having one done as I have had 2 previous miscarriages. I'm now 20 weeks pregnant and was wondering if I can have one or should I wait until the baby is born? I'm due on 27th April 2008.

No it is fine, it wont hurt bub. I had a miscarriage with my first and I have had 2 pap smears done whilst ive been pregnant this time and it didnt cause any bleeding or anything and bub is fine. It is totally safe to have done while you are pregnant. Congrats on the baby!

speaking from experience I would say to have it done now that the pregnancy is well established. I have had a CIN 3 abnormality that was first picked up as a CIN 1 when I was pregant the second time. I ended up with surgery last year so I say its better to be safe than sorry. Picking up problems early is easier on everyone

Its far less invasive than sex is and that is considered safe in pregnancy so the pap smear should do no harm.

Best of luck and congrats on the baby!

i think it is. i had a pap done at around 20 weeks and i am so thankful they did it... or well tried to do it. i was in a tremendous amount of pain for some reason when the nurse was doing the pap and i found out i had an infection that mainly comes from being pregnant! it was no biggy; they gave me a safe medication and apparently i'm fine now. =)

If your doctor says it will be safe then there is no reason not to trust him! In your 2nd week the baby is more developed and he will probably wait till your pass most common miscarriages stages which is in your 2nd trimester

That's odd that your doc suggested you wait till the second trimester to get a pap test. I had one at my first appointment, around 10 weeks.

Usually that's the first thing a doctor does on your first visit or at least for me it is. I don't see why it would hurt the baby.
