Waitresses do not get minimum wage... they get right around 1/2 of min. wage and depend on tips to make up the difference. And this is legal

We have a law stating the minimum wage. Its set to go up soon, but either way the lowest legally paid worker in the US is anyone making minimum wage. Current minimum wage puts anyone who lives alone and makes that amount at $2000 below the national poverty line.

Waitstaff make like 2.15 an hour, plus tips, if they get any. Some people work purely on commission and sometimes don't make anything at all. Everyone else has to either get the federal minimum wage or whatever their state has raised their state minimum wage to above the federal minimum.

Probably a waitress, because they work on tips-there is an exception to them in the Minimum pay laws.

so legally-they can earn like three bucks a night, even on the books, but because they work on tips-they can get more than the average joe as well.

So depends on the perspective.

I bet there're waiters who are paid $5 an hour excl. tip.
