Yes! And I have the inside scoop from a VERY reliable source. Paramount is planning it's most ambiguous, biggest promo campaign and launch it's ever had for the 2008 release for Star Trek XI staring Zachary Quinto and Chris Pine and of course directed by JJ Abrams. But this is knowledge we all have. What you don't know is that shortly after that, on the CW network with a 2009 fall season release date, will launch what is now being called Star Trek Origins which will follow Kirk and Spoke at Star Trek Academy. Early scripts are already written and filming of the pilot is expected 2Q or 3Q 2008. The show is expected to be much more in tune with the 18-34 demographic in a ploy to bring new young fans to the formerly successful franchise, similar to what the WB did with Smallville. I'll get more news as it becomes available.

Hopefully not for a while - they got too carried away and ruined a good universe. Star Treck was founded on "Boldly Going where no man has gone before." After TNG there was no "Boldly Going" except Voyager, but they were "Boldly going home" so that doesn't quite count (and I liked Voyager).
As far as any official word on a new series, I don't know, however there is a preliminary "Star Trek XI" movie on IMDB. Apparently it's about the early days of the original Enterprise. Bleh.
:edit:
IMO what would make a new ST series work: First off, back to the boldly going. Back to exploring strange new worlds and new civilizations. Secondly, I think it's time for a new generation - a new Enterprise, a new crew, a new universe - like the leap from TOS to TNG. And thirdly, just take a break. I think the world is Star Treked out and we just need a breather. Give it a few years and come back with fresh eyes and I think ST could have a whole new rebirth. Just don't get so carried away with it that you ruin it with stupid knock offs like Enterprise (that don't even match with established canon).

Enterprise was canceled do to low ratings. There was an announcement that Enterprise was the last series do to the fact that every Star Trek series after the original had lower and lower ratings. No one will make it do to the lack of interest. It sucks but it seems no ones interested in space anymore.

My favorite was Voyager, but I have seen those at least three times. I now only have the last half of the last season of Enterprise to watch. What will I ever do with no new episodes of Star Trek??
I hope there is plenty more star trek seriese to come!

Enterprise was a nice idea.... It just lost it's ideals of and went off on one about Romulans...
Hopefully Star Trek online will push it in a new direction, if it is set post-nemesis...
I'd like to see the romulan/federation relationship develop, and see some new foes introduced.....and then make a series on it...or do it at the same time....
and kill off all the ferengi

I think Star Trek was equal or better in terms of every technology. Star Wars does have one thing Star Trek can never take: The Force :-)

Yes, there is one being filmed right now.
It is being directed by JJ Abrams (Lost, Alias, MI:3), and is a prequel to the original series. Zachary Quinto (Sylar from Heros) plays Spock, John Cho (Harold and Kumar) as Sulu, Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead) as Scotty and Chris Pine (Princess Diaries 2) as Kirk. The story is supposed to take place when Kirk and Spock first meet in Starfleet, with Leonard Nimoy making an appearance as a future-Spock warning his younger self to protect Kirk. It is currently slated for a Christmas Day '08 release.

I hope so. I was digging around at the supermarket and found an old Star Trek movie I had never seen. I was delighted and all for $1.99.
