Spirit is, in the Christian and Hindu perspective, the third aspect or Person of the Godhead (Father, Son, Holy Spirit; Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva).

As you "assume" the "existence" of Spirit ["spirit"], would note that Spirit is Being, not merely temporal "ex-istere."

As a crystal doesn't "resonate" or "get" photosynthesis, except by extention or analogy, so too the human does not "resonate" or "get" Spirit. It is a category error to presume "Spirit" and "human" are "next door neighbors" or "on the same level."

To "prove" or "discern" or "evaluate" Spirit, one (as a human being) upgrades one's field of being, "draws nigh" to Deity, and Omnipresence draws nigh to one.

When one is at the vibrancy level of Plotinus in One Mind Soul-individuation, one is realizing Self within the One, which process is the Edenic model for Man.

1. Spirit in the triune sense is the Personal realization of Mater, Matter, as the Omega of the Alpha blueprint thrust of Creation's plan. In that sense, it is divine Love.

2. There are no "spirits," only Spirit. "Spirits" are merely suppositional misqualified energies, what Plotinus delineates as evil: misqualified energies, veiled energy, e-veiling, eviling, due to wrong choice. What "makes" a "spirit" a "spirit" is similar to what makes a fallen angel a fallen angel: deliberate mischoice, based on pride, in the face of full and fair warning of consequences of iniquitous behavior. As with a whirlwind, there is no "there" there, as Soul-individuation has been neglected, and a false, synthetic self-ishness has been raised "as godsness."

3. "Real things" are things of the Spirit. For the "natural" or material man, the Holy Spirit is "foolishness." The "inner man" or childlike quality of Jesus is the way which promotes the Soul-realization of Spirit.

You might find contemporary writers, such as Mark Prophet, "Climb the Highest Mountain," Ann Ree Colton, "Men in White Apparel" and "Watch Your Dreams," and O. M. Aivanhov, "The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil," Yogananda, "Autobiography of a Yogi," http://www.yogananda-srf.org as well as Christians such as C. S. Lewis, "The Great Divorce," and Martha Beck, "Expecting Adam," to be helpful re Spirit.

Spirit is not just a concept... and not a thing.

Spirit is Pure Abstraction with the stucture of infinity.

When you say "I AM," you are speaking of Spirit, since it is the abstract subjective quality of who you are... it is the eternal LIGHT of life.

This resource will put it in more understandable terms and also describes how Spirit can be used to umprove one's own life.

Good question!

The spirit within us was breathed into us by God. also referred to as our soul. We are in like image of God, when we die our spirit will go back to its maker ( God ) If we didn't have a real spirit then why would the body even need to die. The body grows old and dies, the spirit lives forever.
