The bigger purpose for education is to improve society. A college degree has been in and out of popularity, but when it goes out of popularity, employers come to universities to beg them to find a way to get more people into training. They NEED well educated people to keep their businesses going. The lack of educated people can bring an entire country to it's knees. California is having a similar problem because it's voters have steadfastly refused to pass educational bonds for 30 years. It has dropped the level of education so low that only Mississippi is any lower. It used to be in the top 5.

The grades matter only to inspire lower-performing students to work harder, to inform parents they are doing the right thing, or need to work with their children even more than they have been. In some majors, like fine art, grades matter only to those who wish to teach art.

what would we do if no one wanted to become a doctor, pilot, teacher, architect, engineer, etc.? Education helps us all. If you are interested in education. Read the works by Tsunesaburo Makiguchi.
