I've traveled a lot!
And I must say my favorite place is California.
I live in Northern Virginia...if you want to see a lot and go on the trip of a lifetime within the United States I would try Virginia. You can visit Maryland and Washington D.C. easily.
All three are wonderful...also you could visit West Virginia that's just as great.
In Virginia you can do all sorts of family activities or go solo!
So my vote California or Virginia.

It all depends on what you enjoy, when you plan to travel and which part of any given state you go to. However, I can personally recommend Northern California, Arizona and Upper Michigan.

Well, if you want to be in the Westernmost and Easternmost state in the USA, then pick Alaska. Don't believe me? Look at those islands on the end there that happen to pass Hawaii...and cross the International date Line...
