absolutely not. The united states is the only first world country in whjich we routinely cut our sons. It hurts them alot and its cruel. How would you like to have a functional body part removed without your consent? Its NOT cleaner, the foreskin doesn't even retract in newborn boys, you just wash the outside and your done. By contrast circumcised boys need to be cleaned and have vaseline applied and you may even have to fiddle with it to be sure that the skin doesn't readhere. How do you think it feels to have an open wound on your genitals while your wearing diapers? Also most doctors don't use any anesthetic at all, when it is used it is often inadequate. Then, after the procedure the baby gets NOTHING for pain while it heals. By contrast, an adult who chooses to be circumcised will be given anesthetic and adequate pain medication while it heals. The circ rate is falling in the US, only about 50% of boys nationwide are cut. So an intact boy will have plenty of company in the locker room. Its also far easier for a man to clean under his foreskin than it is for a woman to clean her vulva and labia. Women manage to clean themselves fine, its not a big deal for a man to do it too. Further, research has shown that the most sensitive parts of a mans penis are on the foreskin, by contrast the most sensitive part of a circumcised penis is often the SCAR. Also, recent research indicates that circumcised babies are 12% more likely to contract MRSA. That means 12 out of 100 circed boys are at risk for contracting MRSA through thier circ wounds. By contrast, if you add up the statistics of the chances of having any of the health problems that circumcision is supposed to "prevent" the risk is well below 12%. Plus, most of those can be prevented with soap and a condom. I found this video to be highly telling about the nature of circumcision.. http://youtube.com/watch?v=f4unKTMpBGA
Its not graphic, it simply shows how the circ rate has risen around the world as doctors claim that it "cures" everything from masturbation to epilepsy. Its really a cure in search of an illness and there absolutely no reason to put a child through that. If its so beneficial, men can choose it for themselves when they are fully grown and informed. -Neb

My son will be born in s a couple months and no he will not be circumcised.
There is no good reason for it. The US is the only first world country to circumcise for "health" or "hygiene" reasons, but yet not a single medical association endorses it.
The tides are changing in the US, it seems most Americans are against infant circumcision. A poll from MSNBC:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19296194/
43% For it
57% Against it

Absolutely. I grew up with an awful foreskin and I finally got cut. There's no way that I would make a kid of mine have to grow up with one of those terrible things. Circumcision is absolutely for the best.

most definately. easier, quicker and safer than when i had it at 23. a week healing compared to 4 - 8 weeks as an adult. it is NOT painful at all, just uncomfortable and a long time outta action as an adult. so yep. as a baby.

I have not had any children of my own yet, but I know for sure that I would have any sons of mine circumcised at birth. Wouldn't have it any other way...

You mean mutilated? Never. In this day and age of regular showers and proper hygiene, there is no excuse to subject a child to that sort of torture. Disgusting........
