When I log on I see a very light block on the upper right hand corner and everything else on the screen is normal. When I restart, it goes away, but if I log in again, it comes back. Could this be from a virus? I'm running a virus scanner right now and it hasn't come up with anything yet...

There was no virus found, so I'm guessing it's the monitor. It's pretty old, and it's not LCD. It has a huge back to it. I have another monitor so I'll try switching them.

I don't think it is due to a virus. The problem might be with your monitor itself. If you are using an LCD monitor, the screen in that part of the monitor might be damaged in some way or defective. Hook up another monitor to your computer, if you have one and see if the problem still occurs. If it does then the problem is with the computer; if it doesn't then the problem is with the monitor.

For whatever reason, some of your files involving VGA output may have some degree of being corrupted.

First, if your Windows allows for it, try a ScanDisk to see if Windows detects and corrects the courrpted file.

If ScanDisk doesn't work, use the System Restore point and go back to a time this year BEFORE the problem occurred. Click on that date and have the PC system settings return there.

If THAT doesn't work as well.....take the System Restore CD and have it scan for, find and correct (overwrite) the corrupted files. Remove the CD afterwards and reboot the PC.

It is possible that a firewall or network monitor is running a display there. Certainly if you don't know what it is, you should run your antivirus and antispyware software.

Do you by any chance have a very fancy video card, capable of running a TV feed on your screen?

No, not a virus. Either a failing monitor or graphics card.
