If "perfection" and "divinity" are synonymous, and the mind of god is unknowable from a human perspective (a popular belief), would this not mean that perfection is unknowable. How do we define or conceptualise perfection? If you define it as an absolute aesthetic principle,it is valid but only from a subjective point of view. If you have found perfection, and perceive it as beauty you are not hypocritical, but chances are you're not human either.

Interestingly science has found that the more symmetrical a person is the more attractive they are to those that have not even seen them.
By conducting a study where women are asked to chose from smell alone, I think you just think that you find beauty in imperfection(making you a hypocrite) as far as human goes for all I know you could be a chimp at a computer that just so happened to have punched random keys that against all odds formed this question, or you could be a self-aware computer. However art as they is a matter of taste.

perfection is divinity. that's it. you just defined what perfection is. beauty is in imperfection because when everything is perfect, will anything stand out? in a group of perfectly shaped, say for example, squares, will a rhombus belong or will it stand out? think of rhombus as an imperfect square.

beauty is an empty concept. think of beauty, all other attributes stripped away, just beauty per se, will you be able to picture it?

finding beauty in imperfection makes you all the more human. if you find some things in this world beautiful, isn't that the same as finding beauty in imperfect things (like the ones in this world)?

I believe that perfection is just an anthropocentric illusion created by our self conscious nature. So anthropocentric that many see it as evidence of a human-like deity too. Things we find so fulfilling about whatever shows us beauty affirms to us whatever we believe as the meaning of existence (or, at best, what existence can mean to our feeble mind). That is why we have the desire to seek perfection, something not truly understood by the human mind, but at least defined by it, and felt by the human spirit.

I guess it would make you a hypocrite if you claimed you thought it was "divine" and you claim you're an atheist. But I say the drive to seek beauty is just human nature. We might feel belittled by the world we live in, "too imperfect," when we try too hard to identify ourselves, but we hope to at least see ourselves as an integral part of this perfect whole.

I would say that the imperfection that you see is perfection to divinity...that your perception as a human being is irrelevant to what is divine so you cannot compare the two.
Think of this though...is your longing for perfection proof of a perfect being and/or your longing for imperfection proof that there is a perfect being you wish to abolish?

I think nothing's wrong with you If you find beauty in imperfection
on material things. Maybe subconsciously you're just fed up with exasperating perfectionists. There was a writer who coined the words 'perfect imperfection.'

Perfection should be beautiful. Maybe if it wasn't, the thing would not be truly perfect! Why would thinking this mean you were hypocritical? You can believe that perfection is divine or not, or beautiful or not - the two are not mutually exclusive.

There are levels of beauty, and degrees of "perfecting." Per-fecting is "completely forming."

It's because you shouldn't expect at all. If you love a person, you should give him absolute right to love the person he wants to. I see that you guys have been dating for a long time, and I see that you want to move forward, take it to the next level, make it TRUE LOVE. Well, if it's for you, then it's for you. Toots2000 is right; Tell him, and whatever happens, graciously accept it. Good luck!
