OK, so I was talking with my cousin on the phone the other night and I heard her soon-to-be-husband saying something in the background behind her and then she said to me "oh, 'sam' (her soon to be hubby) wants you to know that his mother just LOVES you". I didn't know what to say since I've only met this woman 3 or 4 times in my life. I said "um haha, tell him I love his mom too(she really is a very sweet old lady)" and she did. Today she informs me that she is annoyed because his mom doesn't like her very much and she apparently "loves" me and she's kinda been taking it out on me since then. I don't know what to say. Did I say something wrong? Why is she acting like this? She declined my dinner invitation and has been very short with me.

Not much you can do, but I have to wonder why her loving soon to be Husband "Sam" would spit that out?? He's gotta know that would hurt her and that she's aware his Mom isn't too fond of her.....what the hell was he thinking?? I'd say it's his mistake to fix......Was he hoping you'd give her pointers on how to charm her new mother-in-law??....maybe you should advise him on his lack of sensitivity before the wedding!

Evidently, you were very sweet and kind to his Mom. Your cousin should take the lead from you. Tell her that she needs to have his mother love her, too. She may be overreacting that the soon to be mother-in-law doesn't like her. Why is that?

It's not your fault the lady likes you better. Just wait for things to blow over. Your friend sounds a bit immature.

I would tell her not to take it out on you that the woman likes you. You have nothing to do with her not liking your cousin. She is being immature. Call her on it. You did nothing wrong and you do not have to take this.

You can't control what other people do or say. Let it go. You didn't do anything.
