Did you know that in some places in the world around the ages of elevn and 12 young women beggin the education of marriage, sex and procriation? There are discussions about child birth, and about the nature of how to prepare for it, how to please a spouse. The concept of virginity varies from place to place, like in some tribes in Africa, both women and men are expected to remain celibate till marriage. For women in many tribes, the final aspect of initiation into marriage is a controversial one. Upon reaching the age of woman hood a girl has to go under a PAINFULL procedure, known as a clitoredectomy, in which the clitoris is removed. In times ago, this was like a pre-requisit for marriage. The belief was that it would make them whole women, that it would increase their chances of fertility, it won't dull your sexual appetite... What are your feeling about it? Some tribe still do it!

Yes I've heard of that, read about it in Readers Digest. But I heard 5 year old girls go through it. I have actually met 2 women that told me about it. They especially resented that their mother arranged for the woman to do it. But there is one huge mistake -- it does not "dull"; it removes appetite completely.
I think it's barbaric. If foot-binding can be stopped so can this, two sexual perversions carried on too long.

Pretty tough being in a country were the rights of a woman are not much better than that of cattle. the men own them and that's the way it is. Its horrible that we "can't make good little Englishmen of them all",but i fear we don't have a chance. Perhaps we should do a better job keeping our country and its standards up to our expectations. If not we could be there with them in just a few generations ...Oh yes its common practice in other countries as well in the Middle East...There are so many horrors of the other countries that we as Americans don't hear about . Genocide and slavery still are existent as well as Murder by the government and starvation of the people by dictators and the list could go on and on..Your on the right road though by being outspoken on this its just another step until you may do something about it..Good luck on your journey if you do..

That was on law and order but I don't know why people would think that's where you heard of it....I've actually seen shows on the history and discovery channel about that...I think oprah once did a show about it too.
I think it's sad that any people would find that acceptable to do that to their women.
In some tribes in Africa they also don't circumcise their boys until they reach a certain age then it is a ceremony into manhood..one tribe uses a rusty blade to cut off the foreskin while shouting obscenities at the boy and spitting peppered milk in his eyes....and when it is over he is considered a man.

This began and still continues in primarily devoutly Islamic sects regardless of location. The prime reason behind this is so that the woman is not as stimulated during sex, hence less likely to cheat. Barbaric and brutal yes, but would it make it less barbaric and brutal if it was done at the same age as male children get circumcised?

Yes, I knew that. Also, spell and grammar check would help your argument a bit. I think in this day and age, it's barbaric no matter how you wrap it up as tradition. It's basically mutilation and sex is not as good w/o a clitoris. Just backwards way of thinking. To each their own. Explains why Africa, despite some progress, still is haunted by its past.

This has been going on for a very long time. In some tribes, they do this to dull a woman's sexual pleasure so she will not want to cheat with another man. It also is a way for men to control women- sex is all for them. I think it's brutal and sadistic- a very outdated ritual for ignorant, controlling, abusive people.

This is a terrible inhumane procedure done on young women. It is truly barbaric. They do it to lessen the sex drive. Women in many cultures are really brutalized and tortured. I will email you some interesting facts about other barbaric cultures I learned in a Psychology class if you are interested.

i think they should really take action to abandon that practice because that really takes away the sexual pleasure and also a traumatizing life moment for the poor women. also i think that people should not confuse the type of circumcision procedure with a woman for the obvious reasons i just think thats sooo wrong but for them its perfectly normal(few). The same we feel about that is the same way they look at us when we do tattoos and piercings all over our body or dress a certain way etc its all cultural shock

These are the same people who the cultural relativists in the US claim have an equally valid culture, that we're just being bigots if we think their culture sucks.
They also cut off the outer labia, and in some places, actually stitch the woman closed to ensure virginity. The new husband then cuts the stitches open on the wedding night.
But they're not savages or anything.

yes ive heard of it.
i was under the impression that the clitoris was cut to prevent the women from experiencing pleasure during sex. they do this to younger girls-as young as 8 years old.
there are a lot of horrible things that go on in 3rd world countries. Education is key in preventing these atrocious acts against humanity.
Rape is a huge problem in Africa, and the AIDS virus is out of control. Some people actually belive that having sex with a virgin can cure AIDS. As a result, babies as young as a few months old are stolen from their homes and raped and then abandoned. its horrible. some of the things that go on in these places saddens me so much.
