Never put any thing in your ear except your elbow. Some salons offer ear candling ,that will remove ear wax. But the ear wax is there for a reason to protect the ear canal from bacteria and fungus. most people don't need additional cleaning . but if you have hearing loss, dizziness and ringing of the ears ,ear wax may be impacted.

I am a Wellness Consultant by profession. Cleaning your ears should consist of cleaning any ear wax that has made its way out of the canal ONLY! Your body produces the wax for a reason... you need it. Q-tips work great as long as you do not let them enter the canal. You could compact the wax, perforate an ear drum, or simply remove too much of the wax that you need. Hydrogen peroxide is not really a good idea to use due to the way it works. Too much use can result in healthy tissue being damaged. Rubbing alcohol is also not a good choice due to the risk of over drying the delicate tissues of the ear.

Note: Always educate yourself on how the body works so that you are less likely to disrupt the fragile balance of all the systems miraculously cooperating to give you life.

The ear naturally cleans itself. You should never put anything in your ear canal. If you produce a lot of ear wax you may need to go to the doctor a couple times a year and have them clean your ears out. You can gently clean the outside of your ear with qtips. There is a new product that you can buy over the counter at a drug store called the murana (sp) ear cleanser and it uses a sterile solution to flush your ears out at home.

Inside of your ears? There are cleaning kits you can buy at most drugstores. But be careful of using them too frequently. Ears are naturally self-cleaning. Sometimes you need a little help when you get sick and wax builds up.

But other than that, use soap and water on the outside, maybe wiping down with a q-tip occassionally.
