Well, alcohol is a drug like any other drug out there, plain and simple. When small doses of alcohol are ingested, it affects dopamine levels in the brain (as well as many other neurotransmitters). The behavioral response to this is lowered inhibition (meaning you have less social anxiety). However, alcohol is a dirty drug. Because it affects so many neurotransmitters in your brain, you never know what it is going to affect in a certain environment. That's why drunk people can react differently on different evenings, or even different parts of the same evening.

Taken in moderation though, alcohol is a pretty good thing usually!

When you drink to much you only do things you would like to do if you had the balls. Drinking does not allow us to do anything we can not do otherwise. It does loosen us up. Getting hammered will impair good judgment so be careful. Work on your maturity and confidence, and you won't need to drink. Plus stop picking up females in bars, look in other places. Learn how to flirt a bit and look around for those that are looking at you and you will have all the success you need. When you look around and meet someone's eyes and they don't look away, just smile and approach. And start talking more-ask questions & get them to talk. Try it. . .

I'm sure it's just because it makes you more outgoing. You go talk to people you would be too shy to talk to in a sober state. Just think of how great you'd do if you could figure out how to be more outgoing without needing to be drunk off your a$$. The thing with getting so drunk is that you really have no control over what you say and do, and that can really come back to haunt you.

It gives you a false confidence and people can see right through that. You need to develop a sense of self assurance without any "help".

Alcohol "loosens" you up -- it does become more easy to socialize -- it's also why too much can impair your perception.

That's why they call alcohol "liquid courage".
