At a party last night this dude snapped at me when I said we have no business in Iraq.

seriously, this guy blew a gasket and called me a traitor for daring to say the soldiers should come home. He said either I was with Bush or I was with the terrorists. Can you believe that? I thought he was going to get violent for a second there. Finally, I just told him..."this is still america buddy" and walked away.

So who was right? me or him?

I doubt you're telling us the whole story. But you were wrong to bring up a subject like that in front of people you don't know well enough to talk politics with.

BTW Why are so many people willing to defend the askers freedom of speech but not the person who disagreed with him?

The guy should not have come across so angrily.

Just be aware that lots of people feel passionately about things such as Chrisitanity, politics, Iraq war, abortion, etc.

Some people simpley cannot discuss these things rationally. The person may get very mad & heated if the person who they are talking with has a different opinion from them.

Many people have lost loved ones in Itaq .. plus - many people have gone to fight in Iraq .. and are still there fighting in Iraq ... soooo when someone who feel passionately about this hears someone say something like what they are doing is useless .. or something to that effect .. they just lose it.

Whether right, or wrong .. these issues have always brought on big fights.

You were absolutely right. The concept of replacing the Hussein regime was clearly a long term project, and while there was overwhelming support in the press and people and Washington, it is pretty obvious that without such support the project would fail, and there's a clear track record that proves that relying on any of those three to maintain any kind of consistent position for more than a week is extremely foolish.

It was a mistake to count on domestic support lasting for any significant period of time while their right to free health care goes unfulfilled.

I was once run out of a party in Mississippi for stating that schools received funding based on property values so black schools got less money. Don't make the mistake I did, know your audience.

However, he was right in principle if not in his representation of your patriotism. No war ever ended well when we left before it was finished, millions tend to die. Like it or not, the best thing we can do is finish the job.

Neither or both. We all can say any damned thing we want about politics. That's the blessing of living in a free society still. He didn't hit you so he broke no laws. If he hurt you feeling, well, I say watch your mouth, and people may not fine your comments so ignorant and offensive.

You were by what you said and how you handled it. We have no business invading another country. No one should follow anyone blindly. "If the Blind is leading the blind they may both fall in a ditch."

On the subject, I think he was right. But I wouldn't snap at you for your point. I would eagerly engage you in conversation, listen to your points, and try to show you why you are wrong. When we were finished, I hope we could shake hands and walk away friends, whether you realized the truth, or not!

He had the right to state his wrongful opinion. But he should have respected your opinion, because as you said, this is still America.
You were right.

If you have a right to speak your mind, so does he. It's a two way street, for Americans. Do you think only those who agree with you have a right to think for themselves? Or do all free thinkers echo the lib talking points?
