I had to break the apartment lease because I got laid from work,I explained to the management,but now they have send the matter to the collection dept.,they slapping me with $3000 payment or face legal actions. please help

You signed a lease.
You broke the lease.
You are liable.
Pay what you owe and learn from it.

You are legally obligated to pay for the remainder of your lease. There is no such thing as breaking a lease, unless the lease itself allows for breaking it. You have two options. You can call the collection agency and work out a payment plan or you can hire a lawyer to help you. Lawyers are expensive, though, and it's probably cheaper for you to pay the money. I think arranging for a consultation with a lawyer, even if it costs you a hundred bucks or so, is worth your while. He or she can help you understand the process and give you advice on the best way to proceed, including negotiating a lower amount with the collection agency.

If you ignore this, it won't go away. They will end up getting a judgment against you for the money, plus interest, plus legal fees, and they will garnish your wages, if you have any, or they will attach a lien to your property. Unfortunately, leases are legal contracts and you are subject to the laws governing contracts in your state, which is why this has turned into such a mess for you.

if you moved out, and did not stay there,
then they do not have grounds for claiming that
you gained a benefit from them at their expense.
while its true you signed a contract,
circumstances made it impossible for you to follow through.

if they have not taken you to court,
and its just collections calling you, just ignore it.
if you are summoned to court
just explain your circumstances to the judge.
judges do not enforce contracts
unless the plaintiff can show that you benefited by their loss
which you did not.
