The sizes are similar, but women's sizes (the 14W) and misses sizes (the 16) are cut differently. Plus size women's cloths are usually cut fuller in general. Size 14W pants and size 14 pants will usually have similar waist measurements, but the 14W will be cut fuller through the hip and thigh. Or, for another example, a plus-size blouse will usually be cut a bit fuller through the waist in proportion to the bust, and in the sleeves than a similar-sized misses cut blouse.

It depends on the manufacturer... some might charge $50 difference or $100 or probably more depending on how intricate your dress is. OR some might just charge an extra flat fee to submit your own measurements rather than just ordering a size and then having to have it altered, so that it's a custom-made dress. Ask at a bridal shop, they can tell you what would be easier depending on the gown you're interested in. Good luck!

A W is a woman's size and they are cut bigger. A size 16 is a regular size. There are differences in sizes depending on what you pay and designors. I got a kick. I went into WalMart for some tshirts and the Chinese sizes were in effect. Wow, are they smaller!

i think the 14w is a little smaller. but it depends on the store, brand and cut of the clothing item. the W usually means "women" since plus sizes are considered "women" sizes...
