I need to weigh in increments of .01g, but i need the scale to be durable and reliable. The capacity doesn't really matter too much, I want to try and stay under $40.

Listen, scales for premature infants can practically measure an extra piece of lint or swallow of milk. Get one used like on ebay or spend more, which is what you'll have to do in the end

You better go and borrow your school's scales. For such an accurate weighing range you'll need something like US$ 1500 - US$ 4000 at least. Even if you manage to find one, there is also a theoretical error linked to the attempt of weighing a mass so close to the sensitivity of the scale you're using.

You won't get that precision with a scale. You need a balance. Perhaps you can find a used triple-beam balance for that price.
