I learned from health class that only 30% of teens under 18 have had sex. Does that surprise you? Did you think it was more or less?

Yeah, I know I was surprised. They explained that from the media and from other students that we are all led to believe everyone in high school is having sex, and that is what is causing people to have sex because "everyones doing it" (literally).

Oh i think I see, only 30% under 18, then when they reach the senior year of high school, I guess the numbers shoot up.

It doesn't surprise me. I'm 18 and a virgin by choice. A lot of people talk about it, but don't actually do it.

Actually, 60.5% of 12th graders have report having sexual intercourse.

Remember: intercourse does not count oral sex, anal, etc.

Three out of four people have had intercourse by age 20. You're right, the number does shoot up as people get older.

I have always been under the impression that it was much higher.

I have never been one to trust statistics. I honestly don't believe that they asked every teenager (or that every teenager was honest).

If it is true, I would be surprised, but relieved, as I thought that figure would be MUCH higher.

I heard that 60% of highschoolers have had sex. These statistics can never be trusted because people can lie, or different schools have different percentages.

Statistics are never 100% accurate. People lie, people get missed in questioning, etc. Don't believe everything you hear.

I bet it actually is more than 30 percent. On self report surveys people will lie.
