These people are sick and depraved and they have an addiction that cannot be stopped.

Just look at the statistics. They do stuff like it over and over again. If you release them from prison, they will just go online again and repeat the behavior.

Keeping them in prison for life seems to be the only way to be sure that statutory rapists can NEVER do this again. It would keep teenagers safe.

What do you think?

Children need to be kept safe. If someone acts on their addiction once, they will do it over and over again. There is no stopping these people.

Great question! I am a Criminal Justice major and have faced some of these questions in class. I think that if a person rapes someone under 16 years old that is over 25 years old, then yes, they should. However, if an 18 year old rapes a 16 year old, then no. It all depends on the age, mental state of the person, and if they can proved 100% without a doubt that it wasn't consensual.

I ask you this and anyone who answers this question:

If a legal adult solicited a youth aged 16 or older that was emancipated, is it legal for them to have sex?

If it is legal, what makes it alright for a 16 emancipated child to have sex with a legal adult over 18 then just a regular 16 year old? Cause either way, they are both technically have the same brain capability.

Also, if a legal person (age 18 and up) solicited a youth over age 13 years old and the courts proved that the child was in the right mind frame to also know that it was wrong to be solicited by a legal adult and the child committed a sexual act, should the adult be punished?

My thought on that is if a court case can prove without a doubt that the minor know that it was wrong, but still committed sexual acts with a legal adult, then the adult shouldn't get the punishment or they should both receive a punishment. Personally, what makes an 18 year old and a 66 year old together legal, but not say a 13 or 16 year old with a 40 year old? Either way, it's immoral but society turns a blind eye on that.

And ponder this: Could the minor knowing understand that the legal adult could get in serious trouble for soliciting them and aggressively go after older people?

Do you know the meaning of the word of statutory? Look it up in the dictionary. Yes, we should keep our children safe. Ever hear the saying " monkey see, monkey do? " Have you taken a good look at the music and the videos they are watching? They have to be getting the idea from somewhere. If women would stay home before the kid starts school and do their jobs, maybe the kids wouldn't be thinking about sex at an early age. And if we could train men to think with their big heads instead of their lilltle ones, life would be alot earier. Unfortunately, you cannot trust anyone anymore. No fathers, step fathers. ministers, cops, judge's lawyers. or anyone else that has a winkie dangling between their legs.

If it's consensual between a 17 year old & a 20 year old I don't think that should warrant a life term. I know thats not legal ..but come on use some common sense. Thats not what I would consider a rapist . The ones that do deserve a life term are the child molesters .

Yeah, I really think that depends.
Like what your talking about, definitly.
But if an 18 year old and a 16 year old have been going out for a long time and then they have sex, that's also considered statutory rape.
I knew a guy who went to jail for statutory rape, and when he got out the girl married him. She was like three years younger than him.

I disagree, the "statutory rape" laws are subjective as to when a state legislature decides the age someone is responsible enough to make the decision to have sex. How can a legislative body know every individual and their maturity level? The whole idea is ridiculous.

No.

Over 95% of instances of Statutory Rapes involve a teenage couple, where one (usually the girl) is underage and one isn't.

Jailing a 19 year old for life because he had sex with his 17 year old girlfriend is 'cruel and unusual punishment' however you look at it.

No because look here's how the laws are. If a 18 year old has sex with a 16 year old he can go to jail for rape.

there is a HUGE difference between statutory rape and pedophilia. i agree that pedophiles should be kept away, but statutory rape is not the same thing, and no, people convicted of it should not be kept in prison, unless it was under violent and unconsensual circumstances.

all cases are different, you can't use an umbrella term to apply to legal matters such as that.

Depends on the situation.
Statutory rape is different than a pedophile.
