Either Firefox or Opera are better than IE. They're faster, smaller (though FF has some issues with memory management, if you leave the browser running all day. That's supposed to be fixed in version 3, now in beta.)
They're more secure (not as many people use them, so the bad guys tend to write attacks aimed ad IE, not FF or Opera).
Both have a quicker response time fixing bugs than Microsoft does with IE.
Firefox has extensions which let you customize the way the browser looks and works.
Opera has a neat feature that will show realtime images of web pages of your choice -- cool for a home page.
Give each of them a two week trial, I'll bet a nickle you won't go back to IE.

You missed the big point in asking that. It depends if you have a PC or a Mac. If you have a Mac, the default is perfectly fine, no need for Firefox. On the other hand, Firefox is way better than IE.
It has more customizations, and it does get updated more frequently than IE.

I changed from IE to Firefox about a year ago. I LOVE Firefox. First of all, it loads so much faster and doesn't monopolize my processor. Secondly, you can customize your browser with add-ons that improve your security. My favorite add-ons are ad block plus, which keeps pop-up windows and ads from slowing you down and no-script, which protects you from unseen malicious scripts. There are tons of other add-ons which also add functionality to your browser, such as a translator toolbar. Why not give Firefox a try - you can always remove it if you don't like it!

A matter of preference really. I love Mozilla Firefox...my wife hates it. But I like all the available themes and plugins available for FireFox. Especially if you are a web developer there are lots of useful web dev. plugins for FireFox. Also...you don't use Active X controls in FireFox like with MS IE. Those IE active x controls are source for browser hijacking.

Probably. I have Internet Explorer and Firefox on my computer and when i use Firefox it takes alot less longer to start up and to open web pages. Plus i got a virus and its only affecting Internet Explorer and not Firefox. That's how strong Firefox is.

I think it is. It is free and it is safer than IE. It does not get caught in that Microsoft world of lockup. Research what PC Magazine has said about both at their web site.
