I like the restaurant Picco which is a nice but relaxed place for great food. It's address/phone number is:
513 Tremont St Boston, 617 927-0066
Head west on beacon street and turn left on arlington st, then take a right on tremont street and it is not hard to miss.
Enjoy!

Off the beaten path but very close to Common, 75 Chestnut. Pricy but romantic. Walk up Charles St. from the Common, take a left onto Chestnut.

No chain restaurant is romantic although some of them do things to make things a bit more romantic. McCormick and Schmitz has private booths so you don't have to worry about others. Go with a good "local" restaurant!

Get away from that busy section... I am assuming you want something intimate. I went to Francesca's in the North End. (you may have to check the spelling on that but it is on the North end restaurant web page). We loved it and it was not too expensive. That is very sweet of you. I bet you will have a wonderful time!

just take a cab 5 mins to the north end. Stop in at giacomo's, pomodoro or my personal favorite, Pagliuca's. Best food in the city is in the north end

That's right in the middle of the city, so you could get anywhere from there. P.F. Chang's is very close if you like Chinese food.
