First check all of your vacuum hoses. It sounds like you have a vacuum leak some where. They have a tendency to act like you need a tune up. And sometimes it is a combination of both.

Owned an 89 probe and it ran well over 200k- but it was stock and had PLENTY of little problems (electrical, body, leaks, and that dammed oil filter placement!) I would stay with your toyota and take the advice of the certified FORD tech who answered earlier. A Probe is a Mazda (correct me if I am wrong) and is merely "fair" in quality to begin with- let alone with a motor/tranny mod. Pass on this one.

ya check the vacuum system. the battery gauge and oil pressure gauge are low at a low idle because both those are dependant on engine speed. Check your EGR valve those have tendency to take a crap. Oh yes, how i love those EGR valves

well as far as the engine running rough it sounds like the idle control motor has gone bad.
