The BEST memory of the holidays are the ONES that you MAKE for yourself -- whether ALONE or with others (and that is for sure) ...
Well, My siblings and I lost our parents as very young adults ... (and this is now over a quarter century ago) ...
So for us, we remember the MAGIC of Christmas -- Our parents worked very hard, and yes, there was Food on the Table, and some small presents under the tree ... but for us, whatever our Mother Made that day always made it seem so SPECIAL to each of us -- whether it was a crochet item (to put over our end tables), a Card, or just a small thing ... it made us all happy indeed.
NOW ...
Since their death ... I've Survived a Short Disaster of a Marriage (to an Abusive, Violent Sociopath), raised my two babies ALONE as a Long Term Single Parent ... Retired (Honorably) from the Military, and yes ... now .. finally am an Empty-Nesting Single Retiree.
In the time -- there's been happiness and sorrow associate with Christmas -- for it was at Christmas that my Ex took the FINAL step -- abused all of us, stole my property/money .. and left me withOUT ... It was the next year where I was FORCED by the Courts to let that abuser have the children ... and he Abused them (and was convicted of it). Slowly, year by year .. I continued onwards ... and yes, Re-Built my life.
And for me ... THIS Christmas is going to be special indeed ... for NOW ... after about TWO Decades of being ALONE during the holidays ... I now have been blessed (by starting to date this summer) a kind, gentle, caring and loving MAN ... and yes, HE is coming to MY HOME for the Holidays! I am scared, happy, thrilled, and excited all rolled into one package ... and I want this to be the BEST holiday ever! We've been communicating VERY Well, we enjoy each other's company, and (most of all), I find I enjoy his Intelligence, his Wit, and yes, his personality -- and that makes him special indeed.

Just hanging out with my family and cousins its just a great time to have. Any holiday that is.
