Yes they will. The deadline for a trade was a joke just like when they said they would not deal w/ARod when he took his option. It's going to come down to the Sox and Yankees in the end.

Hopefully. Santana is the one guy the Yankees need to put them over the top. A true ace in their rotation has been their problem for the past 7 years and now they have the chance to get what they need. Hopefully they can get a good return in a Matsui deal and make a spinoff deal netting Santana using the pieces they got from San Francisco in addition to some of their own prospects.

Yeah, they are currently working on a deal with San Francisco that would bring in more young pitching, so they would be able to move more young pitching, without selling the entire farm and therefore re-enter themselves in the Santana race.

It is not within Yankee management mentality to give up on something they really want. I am not saying they will get him but I do believe the Yankees are still in the mix.

Of course they will. Just because they said their out of it because of the so called deadline they set, you can't trust what the Steinbrenners say. They said if A-Rod opted out of his contract, they would refuse to negotiate with him. His days in New York were done. See ya later. And guess what, they did negotiate with him and signed him to another crazy sports contract. Are they out of the Santana bidding, possibly, but doubtful.
I think they'll be willing to give up just about any prospect to get him, (with the possible exception of Chamberlain). And with that unlimited money supply ($275 million dollars just spent on A-Rod alone), what's to prevent them from spending another $150 million on Santana or whatever he ends up with. It's all just pocket change to the Yanks.

Possibly, I still think backing out of the race was a sandbag move. as for who we would give up, maybe Kennedy, no other pitchers. I could see putting Johny Damon on the table, but keep the young talent.

For the right price. Any deal would require Hughes, Kennedy, or Chamberlain, plus an outfielder and some other prospects.
