I use regular liquid Tide and Downey liquid fabric softener. If you're using liquid fabric softener AND dryer sheets, you're wasting your money. All you need is ONE method. The dryer sheets aren't doing anything more than the liquid does.

All free & clear, no fabric softner whatsoever. I have really sensitive skin and any other laundry detergent and any fabric softner makes me itchy and break out.

I use Gain liquid soap. I do not use any type of fabric softener as I have learned that they coat the fibers of your clothes. To soften my clothes I use 6 of the little dryer balls that you can purchase at Wal-Mart, Wal-Greens, etc. They are blue and have little spikes on them. The more you use, the softer your clothes will be. Love them! I will never go back to traditional fabric softeners.

I really like the new Tide that they have that has baking soda in it, and the other one with the lemon stuff in it!! They both work well and have great scents. My twins both have Exzema, and it does not bother them.
I have FOUR BOYZ, so I LIVE and SWEAR by Tide!!! I am a walking advertisement!! LOL!
