Simplicity is difficult to attain because we often do not have the ability discard the unnecessary and focus only on the essentials of life. We want to have all the nice things that the world has to offer, but we often forget that the more we have, the more cluttered our existence is. There is often a blurry line that separates the difference between what we NEED and what we WANT. Those who are able to distinguish the difference between the two are usually the ones who truly know what it is they need to live an uncomplicated but meaningful life.
In the arts, architecture (and music) they would call this Minimalism; a principle or philosophy where the subject is reduced to only its necessary elements, and leave it to “perform” at its most optimum potential. To let the visual appeal comes from a minimal but definite focal points rather than confusing the eyes (or ears) with unnecessary background clutter. But stripping down is difficult; one must decide on only a few things to portray and discard the rest.
“Simplicity is the ultimate Sophistication” ~Leonardo da Vinci

Because simple isn't as easy as everyone thinks it is!
For instance: try following "the way" of the Lord Jesus. It's really simple you know. But I'm here to tell you it isn't easy.
I read somewhere that "Christianity was never found wanting and abandoned; but rather it is found too hard to do and is usually discarded for that".
Never the less, it is a simple way to live. But very hard.
So people have a tendency to complicate their lives in order to live an easy life. A simple life. It's an oxymoron to be sure, but there you have it.

Without proper consciousness life can never be simple.
Living life whimsically according to our own perception about this world is gross foolishness , as our tiny brain and intelligence is not enough to lead us to the highest goal of human life.
Without trying to find the real meaning of life , how come we live a simple life ? But knowing and realizing the truth and act accordingly is the only way to lead a simple life otherwise it is not only hard but our entire lifespan is SIMPLY A WASTE Of TIME.

Cause things cost so much to even think about getting it simple ..We'd all like a simple life again but its gonna have to be us that takes a stand to a more simple way of life. We are making our own lives hard and complicated when it really doesnt have to be that way..

We live in a complex time. We do not have a way to keep in simple. Ever more dangerous germs, climate and wars. Simple is as you make it. Yet, why would you want a simple life. As to J.R. saying it wouldn't be life, of course it would. Just ask an amoeba. It has life and it is simple. We would think boring.

The exponential increase of knowledge, new technology, and of social interactions inevitably intrudes upon many people.
For example, new technology asks learning of consumers, whether programming VCRs, cell phone contracts, etc.
Secondly, the inner sense is a focal area which, when neglected, finds inner sense lessening, and outward focus spinning out of control. Such is exemplified in the life and work of J-P Sartre.
Thirdly, the simple life is a shallow life, if unexamined. If examined, known, it is profound, spiritual. Oversimplification is a type of obfuscation, even as overcomplexification, as found in some Heidegger and Sartre, is likewise erring.
"The Path of Virtue," Jonathan Murro, "Climb the Highest Mountain," Mark Prophet, "Expecting Adam," Martha Beck, Ph.D., may be of interest, as give some contemporary answers.

It is hard when we are dealing with life but it does not have to be so hard and painful and suffering we can find joy and happiness and peace and love..................
We have to live in the Now and just have acceptance for what is and not look back at the past or the future we will find great happiness and simplicty in life if we just accept this and be :)))

Because we are not yet simple at heart yet otherwise it would not be difficult. Simplicity one must learn from the beginning or it is very difficult to attain it when one even wants to when they get older. I know because that is my goal. In USA we are not very simple due to our lack of culture.
