I was going to say, move to California, but you are already there. What part of Calfornina are you in? I live in California and don't have to use the heat that much even in winter.

Things you can do:

Check the house for air leaks from the outside. Seal them if there are any.

Wear a jacket or sweater indoors.

Take a warm shower. Temporarily, you will have more resistence to the cold.

Put an extra blanket on the bed and turn down the heat at night.

Turn down the heat when you are out of the house.

Put in double pained windows if you don't have them already.

Put more insulation in the walls and ceiling.

First off, if you own your house, you need to find out if your house is properly insulated with at least R13 insulation. Not only will that help in the winter but will help keep you house cooler in the summer. Next you want to check to see if all your doors and windows apre properly sealed. If you rent, 3M has window sealing kits, you can get them at Wal-mart for like $6.00 a kits, make sure you take the measuments from inside the house of the windows. And you should be able to get the total amount you spent taken off your rent for the month because your owners are to dam cheap.

And to all you Home owners who rent out houses, help out your renters you cheap Bastards!!!
