Those two albums mentioned already are pretty good, also a good starting point, as they are earlier albums. However, Before These Crowded Streets is far and away the best album, and has some of the best lyrics of any DMB album (Stone, Dreaming Tree, Crush, Last Stop, Pig). Also, Busted Stuff is a great album as well. It is very under-rated, mostly because the band released it themseleves, so it had very little publicity when it came out in 2002. It has a lot of great songs on it as well (Bartender, Grey Street, Raven, You Never Know, and Grace is Gone, among others).
Starting with the early stuff might be best though. Also, look into live albums. The original Live at Red Rocks album is amazing, and the band will be releasing a new live album just this week, Live at Piedmont Park, which was recorded at a show in September. That could give you an idea of what kind of music they are currently playing at live shows, and give you a taste of some of the newer stuff, with plenty of the older favorites mixed in.
