I spend hours and hours on my homework each night. I start lke at 5 pm and go until 2 or 3 am. I DO get a lot of hmwk, but I know it's also my time managaement skills that are crap.

I think I might be somewhat of a perfectionist. it's just that I don't know how to make things short, and when I do, I feel like I haven''t done my best. I spend longer than I need to on normal hmwk and even longer on projects. cna someone help??? i've tried makign schedules but i dont sitck to them.
I'm also terrible at prioritizing.

i don't know what grade you are in but i am a senior. all through high school i was the exact same way. however, this year i have extreme senioritis and don't really care. i know that it is really bad to say but i dont really care this year because i have been looking at senior in the past and realized that i was taking harder classes as a junior then they will as seniors in college. that kind of made me give up. now i am not as much of a procrastinator and just do enough to get an a or b. it is a bad philosophy but i am getting a lot more sleep this year.

The first thing I suggest when you sit down to begin working on your homework is to write out all of the assignments you have outstanding that you need to work on. Then transfer that list over in the order they are due. Designate a certain amount of time for yourself to complete all of your homework. If at the end of that time and you completed all that is due the next day--Great! If you have some extra time go ahead and move on to other assignments that are due in the upcoming days. Also, approximate how much time each assignment should take you and give yourself that much time and see how the two times correspond. Another option might be to ask your teacher how much time they anticipate the assignment to take. But please explain to them why you are asking, and make it sound more of an evaluation of yourself; you don't want defensive teachers. Sometimes teachers don't understand how much homework they actually assigned. If you are taking a considerable amount more time on certain assignments then you've identified your weakness, and that then is a whole different answer.

They say the first step to a solution is knowing the problem.
Make a schedule for your homework time each night.
Get one of those 60 minute timers & set it each hour.
When it goes off, mark where you are on the schedule.
Pretty soon you'll see a pattern & realize your wasted time.
Move on to next subject after 1 hours work, then review.
You'll need to get over this for college or working.
Unless you become a self-employed researcher.

I have the same problem. One thing I've found that helps is identifying what is causing the problem. Is there something that distracts you from getting your homework done? If there is than try to avoid it. If not you should try not to worry so much about getting everything perfect, sometimes you have to draw the line between exceeding the standard and using your time wisely. Also, talk to your teachers. They could probably help give you some ideas.
