Not from me.

It has been, and continues to be, a struggle. I know I am good at my craft. The fact that, even SOME clients are willing to spend good money and come back for repeat business indicates that I have my "chops."

But, because I would rather go freelance, instead of working, in harness, at someone else's studio, I set myself up for a lot of dissapointment, hard work that, often, leads nowhere, and a series of non-art related jobs, just to pay the rent and buy groceries. Because I have to go out and find my own clients, the income is extremely irregular. There are years in which I have brought in over $100 K. There are other years where I barely brough it $30 K. It is a rare calandar year where I didn't have to go out to find a regular job, at least, for a while.

Still, there is nothing I'd rather do for a living. And, If I WERE independantly wealthy, I'd STILL be doing it.

I guess my success story is that I AM pursuing my passion, and I can get, at least, some pay for doing it.

I studied art and computer science in college so web design and graphics design came naturally. I received a number of job offers quickly and ultimately, a large company moved me to California. Since then, I've started my own side business freelancing designing website and logos and such. It has been about 9 years since I've graduated and am now working at a large company you may know starting with Y and ending with !. Here I do interaction/visual design including making posters and such for events. It's super fun and I get to live in sunny California and make comfortable money enough to travel around the world whenever I want. (Just got back from Greece!). I like to think of this is a success story because I'm so happy with where I am. I'm not the smartest person or the most creative person but I love what I do and so grateful for everything I've learned along the way. Good luck! I hope you get a success story as well soon!

My older sister is in graphic design. She hasn't fully graduated yet, but she is very successful and loves it very much, however she doesn't really like her boss. But she is very proud of her work and is always showing us some really cool stuff. She's moving along great with her career and I feel that it is perfect for her and she's on her way to being great. If you are interested in graphic design, I say go for it! She designed my business cards and fliers for my business, but she also designs posters for things and wedding photo books and such. She really enjoys it.
