First of all, I know nothing about cars.

I have a 1995 Toyota Corolla. Thats really all I know about it. Its a pretty basic car. Nothing really special about the engine or anything.

Earlier tonight, my car wouldn't start. A friend jumped it, and as it was running, I was cleaning it out. It was running low on gas so we were going to run to the gas station to get some. As soon as I turned my headlights on, the car died. We just re-jumped it and I started cleaning again, but as my cd player and overhead light started flickering (the cd player would turn off and on and restart songs).

Its a new battery, I replaced it in June. Could this be the alternator, and how much would that cost?? PLEASE HELP ME!!

I doubt it.I think you have a bad battery connection. Have someone remove the terminals and do a proper cleaning and re-fastening.

It certainly sounds like the alternator. If the alternator is working to full capacity the motor would have kept going. As to how much it would cost to fix you would have to go to your local Auto Electrical shop. Best to get a quote. Sometimes it's cheaper to replace rather than repair.

First you have the battery load tested even though it's just 6 months old, then if it's ok, it must be the alternator. Charging system for this car is about $100.00-$150.00 w/lifetime warranty.

Yes it is your alternator.
Go to your local auto parts store and get a rebuilt one.
Easy change over, just remember to disconnect the negative battery terminal first.

Can;t tell without a voltmeter. Put the leads on and it should read 13-14 volts. If it quits when you put the lites on, it prolly is.

if you can, take the battery and alternator to auto zone and they will see if thats one of the problems, they will do a little test and, or you can take it to a mechanic.
