I want to throw a fashion show, possibly sew and design the clothes, get many sponsors, and have a show where ppl would pay admission where the $$ goes to animal organizations (my passion for colleges to see). IS this too much and will I be over my head?? and i know i could volunteer at shelters but i like to think outside the box. also, any other volunteer ideas, my resume needs things!!! and also for this fashion show, where should i make it take place, like id do it in the spring...and also a place that would sponsor.. it I live in the Ny area if that helps or just a genral place would help!!! also, would this be impressive for leadership and stuff for college?? thanks!

Its wayyy tooo much. College's will appreciate a very profound volunteer participation as much as a long one. I would recommend volunteering with at a hospital, or going away and working with minorities. For example this next summer I am going to be in Budapest, Hungary working as an intern(volunteering) and I think that will make a pretty big impact with colleges. Be creative and definately be unique, and tie in your volunteer work with what you wanna major in.

While the idea seems good in theory, it seems like a lot of work for one person to undertake.
Also - the spirit of volunteer work isn't "so it looks good in college" - don't try to outdo yourself. For the amount of hours you could spend trying to put this fashion show together, you could have volunteered a very sizeable chunk of time at an animal shelter helping train/take care of animals looking for homes - which is probably more helpful to the shelter than a fashion show would be - while they appreciate money, a volunteer's time and an extra set of hands around the shelter are much more valuable.
Don't throw yourself in headfirst - try organizing something on a smaller scale. Volunteer at an animal shelter and get to know the organization. Organize an event, like a dog walk-a-thon, a garage sale with proceeds going to the shelter, a barbeque, or a dog-training group. If you're really married to the fashion show idea, try a "pet" fashion show - smaller outfits might be more do-able, and it could help you showcase animals in the shelter who are looking for families to adopt them.
If you want to help out with animal organizations, I suggest you start volunteering with a local shelter to see what you can do to best benefit them.
Good Luck!

It sounds like too much for one person to do. Why don't you organize it, but get others to do a big part of the work. You could design one outfit, but get others to do others. That would show more leadership by involving others than you would by doing it all yourself. I should also tell you that it is now too late to do something at this level for THIS spring - shoot for next spring, if you want to do it.

It's always good to do stuff outside the box. And, organizations will always gratefully receive $$$ to go towards their mission. Still, how will you change?

If I were you (and I'm not) I'd try and involve more people than just yourself. Maybe it's other people in your classes. Maybe it's people who could help but also afford to learn a valuable skill, like sewing. Finally, it you're going to help the world in the process, be sure to check where your fabrics are made (www.nosweatapparel.com would be a good start... they have links to fabric producers)

Good luck changing the world and yourself!
