It was obvoius tripping to avoid a rush on the goal... and a dangerous one at that.

The only time a goalie play will results in a penalty shot is if he throws his stick at the puck, which didn't happen. The goalie can't stop a player form getting a breakaway on the goalie.

I asked a question about that play the other day, and I was the only one who thought it was a penalty --- Hasek made no play for the puck, he went for the guy's legs, in my opinion. It was gutsy, but not necessarily legal.

Gaborik is a smart player. He was counting on some kind of inteference from the goalie so I don't think a penalty should even have been called. What did you naysayers expect? Hasek to stand aside an just let him score? It is hockey people!

Goalies can't cause a penalty shot.
- it's a penalty because outside of the crease, a goaltender MUST use his stick to play the puck. Hasek did not, Hasek played his stick out towards the boards and used his pads on Gaborik.

Hasek (as a goaltender) was playing the puck. I don't think he even should have been called for a trip. penalty shots are awarded when a player has a clear path to the net... Hasek was between Gaborik and the net...

That shouldn't have even been a penalty.
If you see games that Hasek plays you will see he does that all the time!
So nothing personal Gaborik..
BUT it is just so FUNNY!

I'll admit it was dangerous, but c'mon this is hockey not horse polo. Everytime you step out on to the ice something dangerous will happen. Get over it, thats why Hasek will go down as one of the best. He'll do anything to prevent the puck from going into the net.

I don't think they give penalty shots for that. But it was definitely tripping and Gaborik deserved a penalty shot. Hasek totally wimped out on that play.

Actually that shouldn't have even been a penalty-clean check of a man with his head down.
